Grow Your App Internationally with Screenshot Translations
Translating your app is a pain. There are over 40 languages to localize for between the Apple App Store and Google Play Store and each requires their own unique screenshots. This can sometimes amount to hundreds, if not thousands, of app screenshot assets you will need to design and upload.
While the process is difficult, the payoff can be enormous. The app Paper saw a 33% increase in installs in China by simply translating their app screenshots from English to Chinese. Applying this simple strategy to other languages can account for huge international install growth for your app.
This is why we’ve launched text caption translations in LaunchMatic, allowing developers to instantly translate their app screenshot text into every single available App Store & Play Store language.
We use the Google Translate API to instantly pull and apply your translations, allowing you to edit the sizing and fonts to accommodate. Translations apply to all the platforms and devices you are working on, removing the redundant work you need to do.
To begin translating your text captions:
- Create a LaunchMatic account.
- Finish designing your app screenshots
- Finalize your text captions
- Navigate to the Text Caption sidebar tab
- Select the language you want to translate into at the bottom of the sidebar
- Click the pink Translate button after you’ve added your language!
Some translations may increase or decrease the amount of text characters, so it’s important you review how they look before moving onto the next language. All sizing and placement edits you make to a new language will only change that language.
Why you should localize your screenshots before your app
I’ve heard from many developers that they are not ready to localize their screenshots due to the fact that their apps aren’t translated yet. These new users will expect an experience similar to the marketing and will most likely churn upon finding out the app is not localized for their language.
See growth in a country before investing development resources towards it
But the process towards localizing your app is time consuming and expensive. This is a process you only want to tackle when you know there will be considerable payoff. While larger companies can afford to localize their app from day 1, smaller apps don’t have this luxury. That’s why in-app translations should be reactionary instead of proactive. Use App Store Optimization strategies to try and grow internationally and, if you begin seeing users installing from these new regions, begin the in-app localization process.
